The rug has often been used in the West to mark out space. It is frequently placed in the hearth of the living-room, banked by opposing sofas or chairs to help emphasize an area where people meet. Here Kate Blee has designed a circle within a rectangle to reinforce the idea that the rug can be the focal point of a room.
